Episode 358 of The Physical Performance Show features Zane Robertson.
“TRIGGER WARNING” This is a deep conversation – if you need mental health support please seek help (Links available below).
Those that follow the world of endurance sports will know that one of our former guests of The Physical Performance Show, New Zealand distance runner Zane Robertson, was banned from all sport for 8 years following a positive test for EPO and for providing false documentation in his defence.
Drug Free Sport New Zealand issued a statement which stated:
“Mr Robertson, who trains in Kenya, was tested at the UK’s Great Manchester Run in May 2022. His sample returned a positive result for EPO, which was later confirmed through B-sample testing. An additional charge of Tampering with Doping Control was added when documents submitted by Mr Robertson in his defence were found to be fraudulent.”
Over the years I’ve provided Zane with physiotherapy services both inside Australia and spent time in Ethiopia in the lead up to the Tokyo Olympic Games assisting Zane. By way of disclosure, whilst Zane has been a physiotherapy patient of mine, like so many patients of mine they also become friends. In reaching out to Zane after the doping violation story and his 8 year ban went public, of which I had no formal knowledge, it became evident that Zane really wanted to share his story, in what he felt, was a safe environment.
That is the genesis for this conversation with Zane Robertson just 48 hours after his doping violation was made public. If you’re interested in the video episode, you can access it here.
“I really do still love running”
